Weyer Aug 14 '72 Journal Chaco Experimental Station 295 km NW Villa Hayes by rd, Sept. Pto. Hayes, Paraguay 16 Sep Salinity difference in soil saw Machi Antennas, not windy. No net or traps Wetzel is interested in the 'tateyji' - give banded armadillo, all here they have only 2 bands. This would be an ideal place to study them - high #'s, concentrated in Estancias. Can't dig too deeply due to hard soil & kgs, cute tall grasses / vegetation & their apparent obliviousness to their surroundings. Same for Tater Bolts. 17 Sep Antennas warm not windy. FM went for walk same as above but turned E & followed fence until where it angles SE. Mostly this is Thorn forest or mat, some old palm swamp & Valled grassland. PM- returned set up 6 nets across trail & across clearing for fence 9 PM temp 71°F light wind clear alternat w/ Percast (rather sudden change). Caught Ants, 3 tropical squeal ants, 2, caddytails, a goatmucka, a creamie bellicid stink & a golden hummingbird & a golden winged carpio. Set the steel trap in a narrow animal path & for me it was sprung & dragged.
