Nyers Phil 1972 Journal 43 Chaco Experimental Station, 25km NW Villa Hayes Road, Ept Rte Hayes, Paraguay. 10 Sept 6 net set along road thru forest almost same site as 9 Sept in order to see where failure to catch anything on 10 Sept was place or weather. Caught no bats tonight either - apparently they just don't fly when it gets cool. Flew at dusk we did see a couple saw a small spotted cat & a grison (?) along the road about 9:30 PM. Heard shuffling & grunting that was probably a large armadillo cool. Released 2 dendrolaptids (#16 352), 2 tierdids (slaty thrush, Rufous bellied thrush). Cool in morning warmer (80s) in afternoon. Netted birds for awhile in AM - very poor (started late around 9:30). Released a Rufous hornero, kept awren? #355. Ontigo brought in a totu bolito cought in a steel trap & said that one of the other men caught a gato monte (for which the traps are set. Skin value = G-700). Asked Macchi about skunks - common he says. Also about aguaraguai (pampas wolf) - says used to be more common, but still not rare. A Mate, or so ago they were awakened several tumbler are howley. Set only 3 nets all over ponds near house. Saw a few bats. air temp 8:30 PM = 71F. Sl breeze (very st.), partly cloudy.
