Myers Phil 1972 Journal 42 Chaco Experimental Station, 295 N.W. Villa Hayes by Rd. Pte Hayes, Paraguay. 9 Sept for the first time in the Chaco. Mosquitos bad. 5 nets out: 1 over small pond near wood, 3 perpendicular to wood, jutiny into field & one across trail thru woods. Wind has switched to S, & temperture much cooler - in 70's during day, [illegible] in evening (measuring). closely sl-med breeze. No bats. Few seen flying. 10 Sept Putupa dendrocolaptid + flycatcher from the nets, one of the catboy men set steel trap out for cat, & caught a fox which he gave to me (#354). Trap was set along trail in woods. Fox is certainly common! This one was moderately fat. We took a tractor ride [illegible] thru cleared across the W side of the highway (part of the station we'd not seen). Not much different from anywhere else. A fire set by one of the neighbors had jumped the fence & was burning nearby, so we walked to it, have a look. Mostly grass burning - Trees not affected. Burns fiercely for a few seconds & then passes. Soil is barely warmed. Lot of mice scared up, & apparently nice swale for frogs - there were numerous large raptors right at its edge! Stepiot in trees nearby, savanna hawks, caracara, etc. Evening [illegible] - 10 p.m. Temp 60°F. Sl breeze, partly cloudy.
