Nurp Pue 1972 Journal 41 Chaco Experimental Station 245 km N of Villa Hayes by Rd. Ppt. Pt. Hayes, Paraguay 7 Sept. Cabebruy (Caparo) - yet Macelli says that 5 years ago there were none. Certainly not among my people. He says is "ecologic change" 8 Sept. Clear & hot. 100° Fly 11 AM. Wind above 4 - talked to a rancher Sr. Gonzalez who has an estancia 3 km SE of Pgo Colorado Rd'd. He said the first they saw of nabies was 4 years ago, when several cattle died. They visited as many hollow trees as they could find cutting & plugging opening w. mud. No more rabies since. They do continue to see evidence of vampires feeding on horses & cattle however. Macchi says there are bat caves near Tobaté, north of Caacupé. 5 net stretched across dirt road leading three low (west). 7:30PM - 5 tiny molossids, 2 Epteserus Myotis. Temp ~80°, partly cloudy. 10: PM - 4 Myotis. Temp still 80° but increasing wind & clouds. 9 Sept checked 6:00AM - 1 tropical screen owl & 1 unk. flycatcher. Overcast no wind Temp ~80° bats are slightly fat & all 4 of both types pregnant - 2 Myotis w. 4 seedlings! 4 of the 5 & Myotis had closed pelvise - multiparous? would be neat... saw a hummingbird
