320km NW Villa Hayes by rd, Sept. BoquerĂ¡n,
Paraguay
25 Aug station 2 martin ago - a black-necked
stilt, a large yellow-leg - like sandpiper,
flocks of small yellow vireos or tanagers,
type. Migratory?
27 Aug 9.4 km E of Paraguari by rd, Sept. Paraguari,
Paraguay settled for 2 hours, mid-morning
weather cool clear. caught a violaceous
quail dove, which fled & a pale-breasted
thrush #326. There is a culvert under
the road, about 4' dia., which I explored
for bat & furred nothing. looked good.
Overstream w. running water, so expect
no droppings.
1 Sept 17 km E of Itaque by rd, Sept. Central Paraguay
old, clear. arrived 2 PM, set up 4 nets &
set out 50 snap traps in the low forest or
brush. caught 1 Orazzys(?) - small,
in a wet, reedy place. 6 traps sprung.
dragged up saw a fox, which was
probably responsible for # number
of birds: #'s 328-336, including the
following: lesser seed finch, protracted
finches, masked quailcates & catamar
refour morero plus 2 unidentified
ternaries & one (?) fomicaried. released
a bluegray tanager & a tropical quailcate (caught
at same time & in same place as masked quailcate.)
