320 km NW Villa Hayes by rd. Pp't. Boqueron,
Paraguay. Also known as Fortin San Juan de Salazar, an estancia run
by Pvt. Eaton.
Flown out with Eaton,
Pete Berrie & a pilot to look at Berrie's
proposed study area on by the R. Verde,
n Eaton's ranch. Weather was warm
but mostly cloudy with occasional
thunder showers. We flew back before flying was bumpy. 1 hr 50 minutes to
get there, 1 hr 10 min to return.
For the first 15 mins on the W of
the R. Paraguay the river are all in
channel. The veg is mostly palm, but
small
W. changes of forest & gallery forest along
the river. For the next ½-¾ hour the
river disappears & we flew over flooded
field palms less forest. Luckier,
place here & during first 15 mins we
flew over what I first thought were bowl-
water - circular bare areas w. a diameter
somewhat greater than that of the palms,
(10 ± ft?). "Termite nest" according to Eaton.
or, could it be other gut, such as those
we saw building nests of similar size
at the Chaco Experimental Station?
As we flew further west the amount of
forest increased until there was a few
