Myers Phil 1972 Journal 28 26th July rd again at 3 to 5, Depto Caaguazu, Paraguay. 26July ears & a very long tail. The rat came from the wood, the gopher- like beast from the field. Said is very sandy in the field & I saw several holes that were of those to general appearance of pipider holes at Hastings the caviomorphs? Some rain at night, but this morning looks very threatening. We drove awhile but left had to turn back. Camped again at same place. No trap, but did see 2 arm- adillas - 1 large (body at least 24") & me small (12"), both in the thickest part of woods at night. Birds for the trip (including stay at Las Manantiales & near Tol (Madecin) no organized list kept. We impressed at how much more tropical the birds were here than in the Chaco. There were toucans & hummingers. I saw a large guan. Colors were bright. Unfortunately we were too busy to do much identifying. 1.6 km by rd NE from San Martin, San Martin, Asuncion, Paraguay warm.
