Wyer PWB 1972 Journal 21 194 km N Coronel Oviedo nrt 3, Dept San Pedro, Paraguay 16 July car. Once we went over the bank onto the red clay. The wheels spun but [illegible] made no impression on the slick surface. Then finally a truck pulled us out. By mid afternoon the sky had clouded over & during the evening there was some rain. But the rd stayed open. We quit at about 5:30 PM all to camp beside the road. Most of the road's lined with small farms, & most forest are cut to some extent. Habitat looks wetter as we go north - greener, forest is higher & denser. The vines are thicker, lot of ferns, lot of butterflies. Still not much F in the way of Bromeliads. Set out 10 snap traps (peanut butter & oatmeal) in a hurry, mostly by rolling logs & tangles under brush at the edge of the road. Saw one small rabbit, & about 8 one of the traps went off, producing a vole. 8 km E of Carapicua by rd, Dept Carapicua, Paraguay 17 July day dawned cloudy, tent up and we contemplated staying put but clouds broke around 10AM w left. Rd continuing to look better. W. American forest, & few people. 30 skin (?) or [illegible] at 3
