Wyer Pue 1972 Journal Chaco Experimental Station, 295 km N of Villa Hays, Depto. Pte Hayes, Paraguay 25 June wind has switched, now coming from N & is strong. in traps from last night - 1 small marsupial, w. head mashed, & head, feet & tails badly cut damaged (#179), 1 small Dedepty in a live trap set on a leaning tree (H186), 3 woodrat types, & 3 of a vole-like mouse. The marsupial was by dead wood in a dry place woaltes were mostly by dense tangles of dead wood, & vole ectos in small grass patches or in woods near branelises. Saw a large -24"- armaadillo by edge of swamp, & found a dead progyrid in the middle of forest, apparently undamaged. B No skull taken (thinking about saline problem). 1 type labelled Procyon canerviorum in Asuncion. zoo - larger more elongate than Procyon lot. Traps (70) moved to swamp. This is mostly Palmas - few miles of water, scattered palmetto, dense grass of several kinds also stands of rushes, legumes bushes, weller bushes, sedges etc. lot of diversity, veg. very patchy - but up in patches of palm stands. only dry grass is at base of palm tree, where there usually a square meter's two.
