Sept Central Paraguay.
June 10-17 traps were set wherever -to fence & the road-
presumably since fences are usually at least 20-50
feet back. We tried to prevent the frequent
users of the road from seeing what we were doing
to prevent trap loss but this resulted in the
traps being hurriedly placed or not put out at all.
On rainy days the road is closed. During the
trapping period there were 2 consecutive days (June 12-13)
of rain when we were unable to check traps.
First night - 8 snap traps set near cut-over
road going to Nueva Colombia in low woody &
scrubby brush. Second night - these were
reset & 20 more set at bridge 13.1 km E
of Jaque, along roadside & in grasses &
floating vegetation in water 6" deep. Third -
sixth nights 10 more added, 14.6 km E of

eighth nights, these latter removed the
first 8 removed, 5 more set near bridge &
8 live traps set 16 km E of Jaque beneath
heavy brush & lotus.
Total catch: one
rat collected June 14, big bridge (# 149). This
was during the rainy pd when traps were not
visited for 2 days, & all that was recovered
of the rat was a head & a strip of skin
from the neck (white fur). Traps set on
