Mayer 1972 Journal Ave. Gral Genes, 1.6 km NE jct Ave San Martin, Asuncion, Paraguay 1-8 June (illegible) that we caught 140 other pets may testify to that of cats & dogs the area support. June 10-17 13.1 km E of Yguare and between Ygure & San Bernardino, Dept. Central Paraguay This is the foot of Lake Ypacarai, a large lake E of Asuncion. The rd is a new dirt rd connecting Yguare & San Bernadino over the N end of the lake, where the lake drains into the Rio Salado. The river is poorly defended here with barely discernable channels. Most of the feeding streams are little more than swamp, with emergent vegetation, mostly tall bunch grass, a thorny legume, & a malvaceous shrub. The site 13.1 km E of Yguare is at a ridge over a small stream of this nature. Two other sites, 14.6 km & 16 km E of Yguare are slightly higher with a dense cover of low grass & unipenotals, camps of stinging bushes. All look as if it is periodically flooded. The entire swamp is enclosed by fences & grazed. Nearby are extensive palm swamps & grassy savanna, & it is a few miles to drier flat swamp is bordered by low forested hills.
