June 1972 Journal Ave. Gral Genes, 1.6 km NE Jcn Ave San Martin, Asuncion, Paraguay The first night all traps were set, but 1-8 June due to a design defect we couldn't have captured anything. The traps were every night but June 6 between June 1 & June 7 (inclusive). The # of effective traps varied, but I estimate a total # of 50 trap nights. Peanut butter, ripe bananas, carrots & lettuce were used as bait. On the 2nd night I captured 1 Didelphis & one Rattus. On the 3rd night, 3 Didelphys (one released about 5 miles away). On 2 June 5 I captured & released a Didelphy (also mi away), & traps set on June 7 caught a Didelphi whose skull I kept. All but 2 of the Didelphys were young - I estimate 3/4 size (from what Gonzales says.) All animals were very fat. Almost every night over half the traps were spring & often moved. Dogs & opossums probably responsible. Didelphis was captured in all of the habitats sampled. The onejeitos are probably unwilling to enter traps & I have asked Manuel to offer 5-10 G's to anyone bringing me in (they hunt them with dogs &
