July 18 TO WISE Mesquite, 400+ ft, Baja Calif.
many. Some on the rocky banks, with
most grouped into one section of the wash.
Canis latrans - Occasionally heard or
tracks seen. Tevis trapped 2 adults, 2 pups.
Synx rufus - Tevis trapped one. Saw no tracks.
There has been no evidence of foxes,
doubtful signs of badgers, and I have seen
only one likely set of skunk tracks. Only
one bat seen.
Reptiles seen were:
Callisaurus draconoides - Occasional
in the wash.
Cnemidophorus tesselatus - All parts
but not common.
Cnemidophorus hyperythmus - Occasional
in all parts.
Sceloporus magister - Moderately common,
usually on yuccas or near woodrat
houses, and mostly in the wash.
Liposaaurus dorsalis - Saw one on the sand
Urosaurus microcutatus - Scarce but in
all areas. There are a few small ones.
Phyllohyndus decertatus - Caught one at
night.
Salvadora hexalepisia - Caught 1 in afternoon
Tevis also found one probably Coluber
flagellum.
