26 April Mitchell Caverns, Providence Mountains,
San Bernardino co., CA.
who the observer was.
When we returned to Darner's Camp we
saw a spectacular lightning storm pass over
the Providences. In the Granite Mountains area
it rained on and off for about three hours.
After dark Bruce Waggy and I drove down
Kelbaker Road to the old Hwy 66 (now the National
Trails Highway) and then east to Essex to look
for snakes that the rain may have brought out.
We found a dead leaf-nosed snake and a
dead Gopher Snake of on Hwy 66 west of Essex.
The thunder and lightning continued as we drove
up Essex Road to the Providence Mountains State
Recreation Area. We saw only geckos on the road
so we turned around below the campground and
headed back to the Granites. We didn't find any
animals on the road on the way back either.
