22 April Granite Cove, Granite Mountains (near
kelso), San Bernardino co., CA.
I spent the day draining the fuel
tank on a diesel buick. I had to jack
the car up, remove the fuel tank, siphon
the diesel and water out, and reinstall the
tank under the car. I siphoned about 2/3
of a gallon of water out of a 15 gallon
tank. I think a lot of the water had been
accumulating for several months, but I
suspect that most of the water came
from Ludlow's truck stop diesel. Philippe
Cohen, director of the Granite Mountains
Natural Reserve, told me that he has had
problems with water in his diesel fuel
(from Ludlow) for his generator.
After I fixed the fuel tank, I returned
to Dorner's camp to relax for the rest of
the afternoon.
