21 April Spring southeast of Goldstone Spring,
Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA.
There is another small spring about 1/8 mile
southeast of Goldstone Spring; it is not on
the "Fountain Peak" 7.5 minute USGS topographic
map. At that spring, we put in three pitfall
traps ( five gallon plastic buckets sunk in the
ground up to the top of the bucket mouth) in the
narrow, sandy wash along the flowing water.
We also put in two more traps along the
bouldery sides of the wash above the spring.
The generally barren, burned area extends past
this spring up to the mountain ridges to the
south.
Ken Norris' UCSC field trip class left
the Bunny Club today to head back to Santa
Cruz before their next field trip.
