1 Km Southwest of Arrowweed Spring,
Providence Mountains, San Bernardino
county, CA. T9N R3E Sec 27 nw'ly.
1257 PST. Bruce and I found an
adult ♀ leopard lizard on the dirt road
to the Pine Tree Ranch site. Habitat was
flat, rocky, and Creosote bush-Yucca vegetation.
At Arrowweed Spring, we found some standing
water, mud mostly, and a lot of cow signs.
We found another adult ♀ leopard lizard in
the shade of a large rock in the dirt road.
This lizard was emaciated and had dirt
(dried mud) on her underside around her
hind legs, feet, and cloaca, perhaps from
laying and burying eggs recently (species cut. Leopard Lizard).
The weather was very windy with 75-80%
hazy cloud cover, but warm (~20°C).
We also drove up into Quail Spring Basin,
checked it out, and then went back to
Dorner's camp.
About 1700 PST, people from John Carothers
class began to arrive at Dorner's camp from
Cabrillo College. They made a lot of noise
moving in.
