Dorner's Camp, Granite Mountains, San
Bernadino County, CA.
Took the day off today to hang
around Dorner's.
1600 PST. I found a desert tortoise
next to the square water tank at Dorner's
cabin; it was in the shade and not active
when I found it (species account: Desert tortoise).
1830 PST. Bruce and I drove to Ludlow
via Hwy 66. On Kelbaker Road 2.8 miles north
of Hwy 40 we found a large Mojave rattlesnake
on the road; that was the fifth one we've seen
on that stretch of Kelbaker Road in the past five
days. North of Hwy 66 on Kelbaker Road
we found a sidewinder with 9 rattle segments
and the tip broken off (species account: sidewinder).
We also found a road-killed patch nosed
snake.
