Species Account
Side Blotched Lizard
(Uta stansburiana)
20 April Vicinity of Volcan Mine, Providence mountains, San Bernardino co., CA.
Bruce Wagg and I caught three lizards near Volcan mine, two in a rocky & gravelly wash and one in low shrubland on loamy soil. Both were caught in the afternoon around 1530 PST.
Since April we have seen this species in nearly every habitat, on the ground, rocks, boards, fallen trees, etc., at every elevation throughout the Providence Mountains area. The lizards seem to be more abundant where there are surface objects such as rocks and logs than on open ground or sand with sparse shrubs or bushes.
