Species Account
Desert Spiny Lizard
(Sceloporus magister)
5 April Dorness Camp, Granite Mountains,
San Bernardino co., CA.
T18N R13E sec 4 sw¼. elev. ~1250m.
0830 PST, Bruce and I found a juvenile
lizard in a small woodpile at the corner
of the cabin above the basement. Had
distinct neck bands, overall yellowish on
back. Habitat - Yucca, cholla scrub near
base of bouldery mountainside. ♀
6 April Cornfield Spring Canyon, Providence Mountains,
San Bernardino co., CA. T10N R13E sec 11 nw¼. elev. 930m.
Juvenile female found on large rockpile
on the south side of the wash that flows along
the southernmost side of the canyon. I noosed
the lizard after a few tries. Habitat - gravelly
wash channel w/ rockpiles and some creosote,
yucca, and other shrubs.
S.V. length: 5.2 cm. Had distinct neck band.
