B.R. MOON 1987 Species Account Long-Nosed Snake (Rhinacheilus lecontei) 18 May Essex Road 2.4 mi. northwest of Hwy 40, San Bernardino co., CA. Bruce & I found an adult snake on the pavement here at about 1930 PST. The night is cool & breezy. Habitat - Creosote- scrub on loamy soil. BRM 97. 25 May Cottonwood Cove area, east of Searchlight, Clark co., Nev. Bob Macey, Bruce Wagg, and I found a long-nosed snake that corresponds to the old description of R.I. clarus on the pavement about 1 hr. after dark (~ 2000 PST). This snake has wide black saddles with white spots on lower sides and narrow white interspaces with very little, faint red flecks on the white. Habitat - Sparse Creosote-scrub in large sandy and gravelly washes. Specimen catalogued by Bob Macey.
