B.R. Moon 1987 Species Account Long-Nosed Snake (Rhinoschilus lecontei) 14 May Kelbaker Road 1.3 mi. south of Vulcan Mine Road, San Bernardino Co., CA. T10N R3E Sec 19 se'/4. elev. ~725 m. Bruce and I found another adult snake just crawling onto the pavement at about 2020 PST. Full moon night but moon not risen; 80% cloud cover; thunderstorms to the [illegible] north but no local rain. Habitat is Creosote-Scrub on rocky/ loamy soil. This snake is similar to previous one (14 May, Kelbaker Road 1.1 mi. north of Hwy 40) but with less distinct red interspaces; black saddles with more white spots including some faint* spot across midline of back; more distinct black spots on red.
