Species Account Gopher Snake (Pituophis melandevus) 2 may northeast edge of Wild Horse Mesa, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. T11N R14E Sec 11 nw'1/4. elev. 1490 m. Bob Macey, Kellar Autumn, Bruce Wagg, and I drove up Wild Horse Canyon and took a side road that goes up into the canyon at the northeast side of Wild Horse Mesa. Past an old water tank in the dense piñon- juniper woodland Kellar spotted a large gopher snake basking beneath two piñon pines. The snake made no attempt to escape or bite when captured. Catalogue # 65. 14 may Blair Bro's Ranch road 3.2 mi. north of Essex Road, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. T10N R15E Sec 18 nw'1/4. elev. ~ 1050 m. Bruce Wagg and I found a large snake basking on the dirt road in the late afternoon. Partly sunny, mostly overcast (~75% cloud cover), warm ~27°C. Habitat was creosote- scrub plains with loamy soil and some rocky and sandy washes in area. Catalogue # 78.
