S.R. MOON 1987 Species Account Striped Whipsnake (Masticophis taeniatus) 20 May Two canyons west of Blind Spring, Providence mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. TION R14E Sec 29 ne'/4. elev. 1500m. 1115 PST, I saw a large snake taking cover in a rockpile in a rocky wash grown to dense stands of catclaw, cholla, prickly pear, Yucca, and various shrubs and grasses. This is well below the piƱon-juniper woodland in this canyon. warm, sunny, & breezy day.
