B.12. Moon 1987 Species Account Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) 25 April Powerline road (dirt) between Kelbaker Road and Foshay Pass, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino county, CA. elev. ~ 1000 m. 0830 PST. We found two tortoises less Km about 1/4 mile apart, both walking down the dirt road about 1/2 mile east of Kelbaker Road. The terrain was hilly, traversed by several washes and hills that formed the bajada to the mountain base. One ?, one ?, both w/ about 28 cm carapaces. The creosote bushes are flowering in the area as are some small annuals. One individual released some water when I picked it up to move it from the road so we could drive past it.
