B.R. Moon 1987 Species Account Gilbert Skink (Eumeces gilberti) 20 May Two canyons west of Blind Spring, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. T11N R14E Sec 29 ne'1/4. elev. ~1600m. I found an adult male skink with a brick red head in a pitfall trap beneath a desert almond bush in a rocky, narrow canyon with dense vegetation (catclaw, cholla, Desert almond + other shrubs). This is just below the lower limit of piñon-juniper woodland in this canyon. It is also just below the spring but far enough from it so there is no surface water near the traps. 21 May Hole in the Wall Campground, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. T11N R15E Sec 8 sw'ly. elev. ~1300m. I found an adult ?? lizard, with a brick red head, in the grassy, rocky canyon below the lookout path and the hole in the wall. Only other bush was a desert almond bush.
