MOON 1987 Species Account Speckled Rattlesnake (Crotalus mitchellii) 10 April Dorner's Camp road (dirt) 1/4 mile from Kelbaker Road near Granite Pass, Granite Mountains, San Bernardino county, CA. Upon leaving Dorner's camp, Bruce and I accidentally ran over a juvenile rattlesnake as we approached Kelbaker Road on the road to Dorner's camp. 1813 PST, early darkness, 3/4 full moon. This individual was grey and spotted in its coloration. BRM # 19. 20 April Goldstone Spring, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino county, CA. TION RLYE sec 31 sw'1/4 We found a large rattlesnake under a desert almond bush just below the dripping pipe that is Goldstone spring. This snake was grey and speckled anteriorly and reddish-pink and faintly banded postere posteriorly. As we approached, it slowly and quietly crawled into the center of the bush (on the ground, not climbing). Rocky area, sparse vegetation in once-burned open piƱon-juniper woodland. 1830 PST.
