on the way to Hole in the Wall, Providence
Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA.
the hulla hoops (thats Hula hoops) and had
a hooping contest on the side of the
road. It seemed that Claudia won, and
I only wondered how small children
could do this with their little bodies and
such big hoops.
Anyway, we did finally make it
over Cedar Canyon Road and down onto
Black Canyon Road. While passing through
the sagebrush plains east of Mid Hills
we found a large Gopher Snake on the
dirt road. We were only distracted by
the snake for a short while still on our
way to Hole in the Wall (We weren't really in
a hurry and we didn't even know what we
were going to do there, but thats where we
were headed).
Once we arrived at the campground
we saw a large Chuckwalla on a rock
near a picnic table. This was surprising
because the habitat is desert scrub with some
junipers and sagebrush, but no creosote (Species
account: chuckwalla).
