R. MOON 1987 Journal 65 14 may Kelbaker Road from Hwy 40 to Kelso, San Bernardino co., CA. Shovel-nosed snake. We also collected a small dead sidewinder that had been hit by a car. This is the second night of the full moon but it is completely overcast and the moon didn't rise until until 2030 PST which may be why we found so many snakes in the early evening. On Kelbaker Road between Hwy 40 and Kelso we found two long-nosed snakes, one on a dirt part of the road near the highway and the other on the pavement near the substation (species account: Long-Nosed snake). We also drove part way up Vulcan Mine Road and on the way back down found a kingsnake crossing the pavement (species account: Common Kingsnake ). Then we went home to Dorner's Camp for the night. * We also found a dead long-tailed Brush Lizard on Kelbaker Road north of Vulcan Mine Road (species account: Long-tailed Brush Lizard).
