R. MOON 1987 Journal 62 14 May Foshay Pass, Providence Mountains, San Bernardino co., CA. Bruce and I drove over the pass at 1300 PST in my car (Honda). We drove from Vulcan Mine Road to the pipeline road, over the first low hill, and then up the road toward Goldstone Spring. About half way between the pipeline road and the transmission line road we turned east onto a road that goes around the steep hill in the pipeline road and reconnects with the pipeline road on the east side of the hill. This was actually quite an achievement considering that we drove a Honda accord over the four wheel drive roads. From here we drove out to Essex Road and up toward Bonanza King Mine. On our way up Blair Bro's Ranch road we found a large Gopher Snake basking in the intermittent sun on the dirt road (Species account: Gopher Snake). The snake seemed indifferent about being approached and picked up. When we arrived at Bonanza King Mine we hiked up into the canyon from the old town remnants just above the mine. We contd.
