Granite Mountains to Santa Cruz, CA.
Bruce Wagg and I left for Santa
Cruz this morning at 0730 PST. We
stopped at Granite Cave to drop some
things off to Phillippe and then we hit
the road.
On Kelbaker Road, at the end of the
pavement near the highway, we found a
large Mojave Rattlesnake on the pavement
(Species account: Mojave Rattlesnake).
It was mostly cloudy over the desert
but we didn't get any rain on the way
out.
When we got to Bakersfield it got hot-
no clouds over the valley. We took Hwy 5
up to 152 and then over to Watsonville
where it was foggy.
We arrived in Santa Cruz (on campus)
at 1600 PST. The trip took us 8 1/2 hours
(-45 min for breakfast) at a speed of
about 15 mph past legal.
