Branta canadensis
June 15 Pitweza River, Cape Sabine, Alaska
a pair seen twice in flight up the river. May
have been the same pair.
20 June 4 flew upriver.
22 June 2 very small geese landed on the bar. These
appeared smaller than the goslings seen in some
spot a week ago and certainly much smaller
than the geese seen earlier. I thought
they were Brant at first.
25 June Pair flew over at 1630
8 July With Merle taking an adult 2 and 3 day young
about 1 mile up the river, this bird is added
to the breeding list. The male got away as did one
chick. These must be the birds noted above
but where did they breed? Certainly not in the area
shown on the map but farther up the river.
