CHILD'S 1951 Pectoral Sandpiper Erolia melanotus June 13 Point Barrow, Alaska. Three birds have been here for almost a week and are now displaying. Their sky flight is unlike the bird. The 7 flies low off over the ground giving a hooting note with the throat area expanded. It may then fly up and glide further up then down thus [illegible] To were asleep on Elam Tract in the am June 14 Heard one give hooting call north of LW about 1400. June 16 Several groups of 3-5 were present on LE in the am. They do not seem to be settled there. One displayed south of the area giving hooting call. June 28 Within the last week these birds have been the most numerous charadiforms besides the phalarope. Many groups of 4-6 birds seen among pairs. July 10 Uniat, 400 ft. Alaska This was the common sandpiper in the area. July 13 We took 2 down young July 15 2 back of lab. Flock saw flock of 15 area NW July 17 2 large flocks of these birds on LE July 20 One lone bird collected off lab. Aug. 20 Relatively abundant in last 10 days
