CHILD 1951 SOLITARY SANDPIPER Tringa solitarius July 20 Point Barrow, Alaska One, foraging in the grass-lined pools behind the lab, flew up at 1300. It was still in the area at 1600. July 21 I was able to collect this bird with the .38 pistol as I ran the bird trap line. It flew up and landed in a puddle behind a pile of panels so that I could approach it closely. Even then it was a long shot for a .38. This bird was very wary.
