Childs 1957 Lagopus lagopus June 10 Wannwright, Alaska One in water plumage seen from plane. June 17 Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska Many dropping seen but no birds. 28 June Still more seen although willows up to 10' high are within 2 mi of camp. 12 July We flushed and shot our first ptarmigan today W of Loon Marsh. 19 July Camp A. Pitmegea River, 1/2 SE Cape Sabine, Alaska Saw several gairs and finally a flock of 8 with mixed aged young in willows. 23 July Pitmegea River, 12 mi SE Cape Sabine, Alaska Regular but in small numbers along the river. One resting under bank, flushed and flew to a bar where it stood watching as we passed. Luckily we weren't hungry. 6 Aug. Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska Flushed one along T. Rock. Harrison? 15 Aug Brook shot one farther out in river area
