General Account.
No eggs. Our location is 36 mi. ESE of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. On driving on to Monterrey April 14 we found the automobile mileage to be 39 miles.
April 14 In my traps I took 1ṽ Perognathus merriami,
1 Ṿ immature Perognathus nelsoni, 3 Ṿ and 1ṽ Peromyscus eremicus, 1ṽ and 1 Ṿ Peromyscus leucopus - these in
the M. Specials. In the live traps I took 2 ṽ P.
merriami and 1 Ṿ P. eremicus. We drove on from here
to Monterrey and from there more or less south into
the mountains about 10 miles at an elevation of
4000 ft. There is a small resort here called
Chipinque. The road was built by Almanzan.
The habitat here consists of large oak trees, a few
pines and other species unknown to me. Underneath
is a medium thick growth of low brush, weeds, and
green grass. The ground is rocky and in a small canyon
where I set traps there are boulders 30 ft. high,
covered with small plants. We are camped
near the small house of a native. The person in
charge of the resort refused us permission to camp
there. In the late afternoon I set out 58 M. Specials
and 10 Schnyfer No 1's, although I saw no sign of
any rats. Small traps were baited with oatmeal
and birdseed, the large with dried peaches.
Our camp is by a house with a pump for water-place
known as Aguaje de Lobo. We called it 10 mi. S
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
