General Account.
Matamoros, Tamaulipas. ? set out 50 M. specials and
50 live traps, the latter after dark. Hear Paroques
calling. Weather cool?, not many mosquitoes, etc.
Driving along the road today Benson shot 2 Citellus
Mexicanus and we saw a White-tailed Deer. At
El Tigre ? found a small Toad hiding in a land crab's
hole. We looked for mole signs but found none.
We saw some gopher signs a few miles S of Matamoros.
April 9 In my 50 M.specials ? took 2 ? Peromyscus leucopus,
1 ? Linmys sp., 2 ? Perognathus merriami, and 2 ?, 1?
Ochommys leucogaster. ?in my 50 live traps ? took
2 ? P. merriami and 1 ? Rheithrodontys sp. This
camp was made because we could travel no farther
yesterday. ?t turned out to be within a few
hundred yards of our camp of the night of April 7:
5.7 mi. S Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The habitat was
the same as the country here is flat and much alike
for miles. Today we travelled on through Matamoros
and W toward Reynosa. Our steering gear broke
about 40 miles from Reynosa so we proceeded
globly to within a few miles of town and
camped. Set out 50 live traps.
April 10 Got 2 ? Perognathus merriami in my live traps.
Location about 1 mi. SE Reynosa. From Reynosa
we drove south to Charco Escondido. In the afternoon,
? set out 50 M. specials in a habitat of medium thick
cage mesquite, other brush and prickly pear cactus.
