April 8.
Got nothing in my traps this morning. On its pond
were Pelicans, Willet, Godwits, Laughing Gull, and
Terns (sp?) in addition to those seen yesterday. We
went on to the Laguna Madre. The country here was
sparsely populated, flat, sandy soil, and mostly
covered with mesquite or grass and weeds. We
caught a few fish at a small wharf. We then
drove back along our former route, passing through
San Pedro, La Gloria, La Reforma, Guichavo and
El Tigre on the way to Matamoros. These 'Towns' are
nearly all nothing but ranches with names and
places on the maps. We camped about 6 PM in the
same place as day before yesterday! 5.7 mi. S
