Avocet, saw also Curlews, Black-backed Stilts, Small Sandpipers, Killdeer, Cormorant, Tri-colored Red-winged Blackbirds, Lesser Scaup, Road Runner, Black Vultures, Caracara at camp. Heard a Night Heron. Along the road today saw Mockingbird, Vermillion Flycatcher, Shrike, Cactus Woodpecker, Harris Hawk, Turkey Vulture, White Pelican, Swallows (sp?), Swifts (sp?). At camp in the morn- ing heard a Chachalaca. Saw many Silvilagos out in the afternoon during an eclipse of the sun, which was about 2 observed here. At camp tonight we saw many Jack-Rabbits but no bats, which we effected near the water. Our location here is 41 mi. SSW Matamoros, 6 mi. E San Pedro, Tamaulipas. April 8. Got nothing in my traps this morning. On its pond were Pelicans, Willet, Godwits, Laughing Gull, and Terns (sp?) in addition to those seen yesterday. We went on to the Laguna Madre. The country here was sparsely populated, flat, sandy soil, and mostly covered with mesquite or grass and weeds. We caught a few fish at a small wharf. We then drove back along our former route, passing through San Pedro, La Gloria, La Reforma, Guichavo and El Tigre on the way to Matamoros. These 'Towns' are nearly all nothing but ranches with names and places on the maps. We camped about 6 PM in the same place as day before yesterday! 5.7 mi. S
