General Account.
The Wood Pies were all caught in large traps set near their nests. Nearly 2 in. of rain by 11:30 P.M. Weather fairly warm. In the afternoon I walked about 3/4 mile to a small lake about 1/2 mile long and 1/4 mile wide. On it were Canvas-backed Ducks, American Widgeon, Green-winged Teal and Mallards. On the shore were Killdeer, Small Sandpipers (size of Western), Greater Yellowlegs and American Pipit. Near the shore were Sparrow Hawks and a Swallow Tail Flycatcher. I also saw a Gopher Snake which I collected. Many Ravens were flying about. On the way to camp I saw 3 Jack Rabbits and shot one.
March 25 Still cloudy. Began raining about 8:30 P.M. Colder today. We set out no traps last night. Too muddy for us to leave now. In the morning we put up 2 snakes and a toad. In the afternoon it was not raining, and Benson and I walked to the pond 3/4 mile N of us. Here [illegible] Benson shot 3 Dowitchers, 1 Lark Bunting and 1 Sandwich Sparrow, I got a Lesser Yellowlegs and on the way to camp a Cottontail. At camp Benson shot a Clay-colored Sparrow. We then set out 50 traps apiece—Marge also.
March 26 Had in my traps 6♂, 2♀ Peromyscus leucopus and one ♀ Perognathus merriami. Rained very little as not at all last night, but still cloudy with fine misty rain this morning. Weather fairly warm. Put up mammals in the morning. Benson shot two Harris Hawks and a White-necked Raven at camp.
