General Account.
ever put up. In this region I have seen Bewick Wren, Sloyd Bush-Tito, Aphelocoma [illegible], Turkey Vulture, some kind of black-capped gruatecher and others unidentified. We left March 21 camp late in the afternoon stopping at the CCC camp nearby to take their walk to town. Mr. Scott, the superintendent had earlier in the day repaired a broken part on the car for us, and now he invited us to dinner. During the drive to Marathon, 84 miles away, from starting at about 5:30 PM I saw the following. Jack-rabbits (black-tailed) - 11, White-tailed Deer - 3, Silvilagus sp: 1, Owl - 1, Red-tailed Hawk - 1, Road Runner - 3.
March 22 After camping along the road we drove from early morning until about 4:30 P.M., when we reached Laredo on the Mexican border. During the trip from Dryden, Texas to Laredo, along the road I saw the following vertebrates (plus others unidentified): Mourning Dove, Shrike, White-necked Raven, Meadow Lark, dead Black-tailed Jack Rabbit, dead Red-tailed Hawk, English Sparrow, Turkey Vulture, Canyon Wren, Cardinal, Linnet, Mockingbird, Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (dead), Brewer Blackbirds, Road Runner, Belted Kingfisher (call heard), Texas Woodpecker, Boat-tailed Grackle, Marsh Hawk, Lark Sparrow, Red-headed Woodpecker, Pyrauloxia, and Harris Hawk (seen by Benson only).
March 23 We stayed in Laredo, Texas, while Benson got special permission to get our stuff across the border.
