March 23 H60't el. 38 mi. S of Nuevo Laredo, in Nuevo Lem, Mexico.
Saw several Cottontails on the desert near camp while setting
traps. Shot one - adult o-? and small in size.
March 25 Same location. Shot a ? Cottontail (noembryos).
and saw Jackrabbits. Habitat - Prickly-pear cactus and
other cacti - mesquite and similar brush.
March 31 2400+ ft. Rancho Rodeo, 7.3 mi. S Santa Catarina, Nuevo Lem.
Shot a ? Cottontail on a rocky, cactus and brush covered
hill.
April 6 Elevation less than 100 ft. 5.7 mi. S Matamoros, Tamaulipas,
Mexico. Shot a Cottontail after dark while setting traps.
Habitat - high mesquite trees, smaller prickly pear and
other cacti in lesser amounts; other species of brush. Soil
grey, gray from in color. Brush too dense to walk through
in many places.
May 15 2000 m 3 mi. NE Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes,
saw a cottontail late yesterday evening while
setting traps. Habitat - E facing slope of low hill,
covered to medium thickness with Nopal cactus,
cholla cactus, low leafless brush and dry grass and
weeds. Soil hard and rocky. The rabbit ran
from me getting out of sight in a few seconds.
May 20 1 mi. W Hacienda la Parada, 20 mi. NW San Luis
Potosi, San Luis Potosi. Shot one ? (3 embryos)
in habitat of medium-thick brush and cacti on
low rocky hills.
May 27 3 mi. N Lulu, Zacatecas. Shot one male today
