E.V. Miller 1940 Black-tailed Jackrabbit Lepus californicus Mar.20 Brewster Co., Texas. Driving from the Chisos Mts. to Marathon in the evening and after dark, 84 miles, saw 11 jacks along the road. Also several dead, run over by automobiles. March24 400'±elev. 38 mi. S Nuevo Laredo in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Shot a jackrabbit on the desert. Saw 2 others. Habitat - Prickly pear cactus and other cacti. Mesquite and other similar brush. Practically no grass. Cottontail Rabbits and Coyotes also present. April 8 41 mi. SSW Matamoros, 6 mi. E San Pedro, Tamaulipas. Location near (within a mile) of Laguna Madre. Jack- rabbits very common near the seashore where there are fields of weeds and grass; not so a few miles inland. April11 Charco Escindido, 20+ mi. S Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Saw 3 of this species this morning - habitat - grassy level field with a few mesquite, etc., trees mit. May 20 1mi. W Hacienda la Pareda, 20 nis. NW San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potosi. Saw several 'jacks' in habitat of medium thick brush and cactis on low rocky hills of rocky soil. These were rarely seen within shotgun range. May 29 San Juan Nepomuceno, 5 mi. N la Ventura, Coahuila. Jacks quite common in grassy spots among creosote brush and cholla cactus.
