E.V. Miller 1940 34. General Account Dipodomys spectabilis, 3 ?, 1? Dipodomys merriami, 4?, 2 ? Dipodomys ordii. Delgadillo took in his traps 2 ?, 2 ? Geomys sp., 1 ?, 1 ? Peromyscus sp., 1 ? Rheithrodotmups megalotus, 2? Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 ?, 1? Neotoma albigula, 3?, 2? Perozrathus penicillatus, 2?, 3? Dipodomys ordii, and 1 ? Dipodomys merriami. In the afternoon we drove into the state of Coahuila, through la Ventura and 5 miles north of it camped at a small ranch, San Juan Nepomuceno. There is a prairie dog city here, about a half mile wide and a mile or more in length. I shot four, 1 ? and 3 ?. A person can walk up to within 20 to 30 feet of these animals, so there is no need to waste ammunition at long range as we did at first. In the afternoon I collected 2 ?, 1? ? Cynomys mexicanus, [collected] a set (3) of eggs of a May 29 Curve-billed Thrasher. I set 50 traps for mice in low sparse creosote brush, and near cholla cactus. I saw Dipodomys spectabilis mounds. Saw also Black-tailed Jackrabbit, Silvilagus sp, Desert Sparrows, Turkey Vulture, Kingbird (western?) Barn Swallow, and Boat-tailed Grackle. May 30 May 24 Took in my traps 3 Dipodomys merriami and 3 Dipodomys ordii. In the afternoon we drove north toward Saltillo. Along the road I collected a ? Citellus spilosoma. We saw Cynomys citis' a ? about 19 and 24 miles north of la Ventura,
