E. V. Miller 1940 21 General Account The country here is made of rounded mountains and deep canyons. April 21 Camped last night at 5700+ ft. 0.7 mi. S Puente Tasquillo, Hidalgo. Desert, mountainous country. In the evening I shot one or Pipistrellus sp. Set out 50 M. Specials and 3 rat traps. Took 5?, 2? Peromyscus truei. Mezquite and other brush present but sparse. Cactus Wrens, Canyon Wrens, White-throated Swifts, and White-winged Doves present; also Linnets, Bewick Wrens. April 22 Yesterday we drove toward Mexico City, turning off the main highway to go to Los Piramides de San Juan Tzotihucan. In the evening I set out 50 M. Specials yesterday near a small park near the pyramid "Templo del Sol." The habitat here was piles of loose rocks 3-4" in diameter, bare earth, pepper trees, and prickly pear cactus. Also 9 set, with S. Delgadillo, 7 gopher traps in the Templo de Quetzalcoatl. The gopher burrows were very numerous here and large - 3-4" in diameter, but because we set the traps at night we could not tell fresh wounds from old ones and I took but 1 immature female (Cratogeomys?), in the mouse traps I took 1? Peromyscus truei. In the afternoon we drove on to Mexico City to arrange for permits. April May 30 Left Mexico City yesterday and drove east to camp at 9600+ ft, 5 mi. E Amecameca, Mexico. I set 50 mouse and 10 rat traps in a forest habitat.
