Baird Cormorant
May 20, Coast west and north of Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Caly.
6:00 A.M. Sun out
Several large black birds seen in flight and resting on the water of the ocean. They have a white rump patch but are dark otherwise.
May 21, Sun shining
6:00 A.M. About 8 or 10 birds observed some resting on water and some in flight. They fly with a slow regular wing beat. The neck is stretched straight out in front. The rate of flight is much slower than that of the Pigeon-Guillemont which are very abundant here too.
