May 30, Galulin Range, 1500 ft, 5 1/2 mi ENE Soledad, Monterey Co., Calif.
went up to the barn to shoot bats. I shot 1
Myotis californicus. We slew only about
8-10 bats fly out of the barn. We watched
the barn from about 8 to 9 o'clock.
May 31, Last night 50 live traps were set out along
the edge and within a grassy hillside.
There was Adenostoma along the margin
and Blue fuch thru the grass. These caught:
5 Reithrodontomyx, 3 Peromyscus maniculatus,
1 Dipodomys (immature), one adult and
one immature Perognathus californicus.
We put up specimens during the morning.
After lunch we left The Hall Ranch and
got down Stonewall Canyon to Soledad.
We stopped in Soledad and we drove
8.8 miles to Metz. We are camped now-
on the bank of the Salinas River at Metz.
June 1, Metz, 250 ft, Monterey Co., Calif.
Last night I set out 49 live traps along a bank
near the Salinas river. The bank was about
2-5 ft high and was between the overflow
flat of the river and a higher sandy terrise. Some
Willows grew along the bank and Lotus, Star
Thistle and grass were common above on the
terrise. I caught 1 immature Dipodomys,
1 Reithrodontomyx and two Peromyscus
maniculatus. We left Metz about 11 A.M. and
