Itinerary
March 31, previously and caught Dipodomys
merriatus on both. The Cruz Ranch is
in open country previously cut out
from Redwood forest. There is not Redwood
in close to the Ranch. We saw some
Sandy Chaparral covered hills on
which Dipodomys were caught by
Mr. Hawbecker. The Berglund
Ranch is also cut off of Redwood
forest but its margins merge into
new Second Growth Redwood
forest which was timbered out about
10 years ago. The Ranch has many
apple trees planted in between
islands of Chaparral. There are
Redwoods on west, North and east
sides of the Ranch and a north facing
slope with Baccharis etc. Chaparral
most of the way up and grass meadow
and occasional Baccharis on top the
ridge.
