Memmler 1942 28. Itinerary March 31, previously and caught Dipodomys merriatus on both. The Cruz Ranch is in open country previously cut out from Redwood forest. There is not Redwood in close to the Ranch. We saw some Sandy Chaparral covered hills on which Dipodomys were caught by Mr. Hawbecker. The Berglund Ranch is also cut off of Redwood forest but its margins merge into new Second Growth Redwood forest which was timbered out about 10 years ago. The Ranch has many apple trees planted in between islands of Chaparral. There are Redwoods on west, North and east sides of the Ranch and a north facing slope with Baccharis etc. Chaparral most of the way up and grass meadow and occasional Baccharis on top the ridge.
