4 mi. SW Prineville, 3300 ft., Crook Co., Oregon.
June 18, 1938. Caught 3 Dipodomys and 9 Peromyscus. Put up four of the latter tho other five juveniles were 3 males and 2 females. Most of the traps were rain sprung and the animals drenched. Temperature dropped at noon and soon after a wind sprang up from the west. At 4:00 rain set up and had stopped by 5:00 P.M. Set out 50 traps through and beneath junipers and sand near rocks on the crest of the lava ridge. Copious Nestoma signs. Russell shot 2 Blacktailed jack rabbits. Coming home heard Hornedowl and Coyote. The birds seen are limited. Magpies, Robins, Western Bluebird, Skrike, Redtail, Hornedowl, Brewer Sparrow, Chipping sparrow, Ash throated flycatcher. Miller went out later for owls.
June 19, 1938 Caught 6 Dipodomys and 12 Peromyc-cus. 5 skulls crushed on three Dipodomys so they were discarded; 2 females, 2 juvenile males. 9 Peromyscus discarded; 5 males, 4 females, seven of these were juveniles. Most two traps, one of which was in vicinity of fresh Nestoma droppings. Teet trapped a Bushy-tailed wood rat in similar surroundings. Another trap was obviously sprung by me and dragged some 15 feet into rocks. Skinned out 5 animals and headed East towards Crooked River above Prineville. At this point on the west side of the river the canyon rim is ~~ about a mile from the river. The drop being
