Diary 11 mi W and 7 mi S Mitchell, Wheeler Co., Oregon. June 15, 1938 Besides animals listed in catalog caught 3 Peromyscus., 1 male, 2 females. Put catch in bag and went down to Marks Creek (6 mi. E and 3 mi. N Wildcat Mt., Crook Co.) with Miller and Test, they worked down stream while I set out 6 jump traps (No. 1 steel or equivalent) for marmots. After setting these went to a small frog pond about 6 ft. from the stream and some 100 yds. below the cross road. The pond had a purple tint and was crowded with dlya and yellow leg frog tadpoles. There were also about 1/2 doz. small fish swimming in it (evaded capture) Dragged the pond several times and noticed some copepods in the drag so saved it even though it was very muddy. Two steel traps were sprung, had yellow hair in jaws. At one burrow fleas were thick, no fresh droppings. Need heavier traps. Heard hummingbird singing but couldn't locate it. Skinned until 5:00 P.M. I took heavier traps down to marmots. Had caught one Callospermophile June 16, 1938 No catch in the traps, hunted up Marks Creek, found a heavy forest on the N. side of fir, larches, and yellow pine. Got a chipmunk and chiadee Heard several woodpecker notes unfamiliar to me. Returned to traps, bad caught one young marmot by the foreleg. It began to rain. Waited for Miller and Test in the car and returned to
