Diary
11 mi. W and 7 mi. S Mitchell June 12, 1938
Made only a poor catch. On the way down in the
car flushed a herd of mule deer, 6 roe. Hunted
my way home. In a meadow ¼ mile E of the road
saw a few Citellus and plenty of workings. Will
get them later. Shot a chipping sparrow and
scared up a Chickory, got it too. Later shot
a Western bluebird. Miller taught me how to
put it up. Caught a Rana in the stream off
of camp. Put out 35 traps mostly in marsh
grass for micratus. On the way home set out
several (5) traps along the stream near some willows
for Zapus.

Besides cataloged specimens caught four
Pleomycus; 3 males, 1 female; and one juvenile
micratus. Shot a juvenile ♀ Citellus. Stalked a
young buck in velvet, probably mule deer. Rained
yesterday afternoon, fields very wet last night
and a heavy dew this morning. Lickers seem
more active today. Miller and Test went towards
Prineville on the main road, saw a Thamnaphis,
Test caught two young Sceloporus. Spent the
afternoon putting up a bird.
